Finally. Other people are starting to cover Callie’s songs. UkiSociety just posted his second.
Here’s another one I’m working on: “My Time (is Your Time)” by way of Paul Simon’s Graceland. You know what I’m sayin’?
“Why I Gotta Feel” is starting to get more interesting.
OMG!
Wow.
So after mentioning Mitch Miller in my post yesterday, I decided to refresh my recollection,
I was too young then to remember him well now, but my parents and I used to watch “Sing-a-Long With Mitch” back in the day.
Ok. Get this. On the Mitch Miller show, they used to flash the song lyrics on the TV screen along with…a bouncing ball. The name “Rosealee,” which appears prominently in “Time Well Spent” also appears prominently in Miller’s big hit, “The Yellow Rose of Texas.” And Miller’s songs were pretty much all cornball standards sung by large men’s choruses.
Dear God…I HAVE been unconsciously channeling Mitch Miller these last few songs and videos! so the joke IS on me after all!
Ok, this may be the FINAL version of “Why I Gotta Feel.” Or I may chuck it and start over from scratch. It’s getting really big. I don’t know when I turned into a one man male chorus, but this is starting to sound like an old Mitch Miller recording.
Always did like his version of “Yellow Rose of Texas.”
Yet another version of “Why I Gotta Feel.” Trying to refine it.
I’m torn. On the one hand, I love the melody. On the other hand, the lyrics are so ….I mean, I actually rhyme “Dove” and “Love” for chrissakes.
Maybe this song is actually a joke, but I just haven’t caught on yet?
Oh, well. I can’t depend on other people to dig my songs out of the trash. I’ve got to figure out what I’m trying to do this with. Is it a joke? Or is it heartfelt sweetness wrapped in edible crotchless undies? Only time will tell.
I wouldn’t call myself a sweet person, but some part of me wants to write music that is sweet and nostalgic. Could it be…the devil?
Now that I think of it, I imagine this song being sung by those unsuspecting Japanese sailors in the first Godzilla movie, in that early scene just before the monster emerges from the depths and sprays the ship with flame. I’ve often wondered about that scene…that moment before the storm. Do Japanese merchant marines actually kill time by sitting around with their guitars and accordians sightreading arrangements of folk songs between watches? How idyllic!
“Godzilla, the Musical.” Now there’s a concept whose time has come. Maybe THAT should the theme of my video for this song. I could lift a few frames from the Godzilla movies and repeat them in such a way that the crew of the doomed ship appears to be performing this song just before getting napalmed.
Hmmm. Should I actually start working now? I do have a job, after all.
